Racing circuit guides

I collaborated closely with the Head of Design at Formula-E, the electric motor racing series, to develop the look and feel of their circuit maps. The project involved creating 12 city map circuit guides, one for each track in the series, to showcase crucial information such as location, event infrastructure, and sporting data for each turn. My primary objective was to design visually captivating graphics that effectively communicated detailed information and convey the intended message. The Formula-E project was particularly fascinating and enjoyable as motor racing is an exciting and visually stimulating field. With this project, I had the opportunity to create map circuit guides that became part of Formula-E’s brand, especially significant given the significant visual changes that formula racing has undergone over the past two decades.

This shows individual graphics depicting the logos needed for the “key” used across the circuit guides, including start/finish, parking, stands and timing segments. I also designed the timing sector displays for each guide.

This graphic displays the full layout for the Beijing circuit. The top-down overview shows the Olympic Park, surrounded by the actual racing circuit and each timing sector. The turn information is also displayed.

Each curcuit was drawn in such a way that it could be used in multiple formats. In web, in print, on hoardings and even on mobile. This particular example shows the Beijing circuit as Round 1 and displays the track layout and the circuit guide information in detail, including the number of corners, distance and other relevant information.
